Hike will proceed along the mostly level, mostly flat, with some gravel or dirt path with numerous muddy spots and occasional water crossings, out to the wetlands at the mouth of the Mendenhall River. Tall grasses hide nesting Savannah Sparrows and other songbirds. The area also attracts snipes, shrikes, waterfowl, as well as raptors in the meadows. One of the premiere birding hotspots in Juneau, it also attracts lots of dog walkers. Please leave your dog at home. (High tide 13.1’ at 9:22 am)
