Juneau Audubon Society is solely a volunteer-based non-profit organization. Our success depends on people within the community who share an interest in birds and a concern for natural places, wildlife, and stewardship. We can’t do what we strive to do without volunteers who give their time and talents.
Volunteers are the key to our success, and volunteering can take a variety of people, time, and commitment.
Board of Directors Member
Want to dig in, create, and support the mission of the organization? Twelve dedicated and hard-working individuals meet once a month September through April and, when necessary, once in the summer months, for roughly two hours to discuss issues related to the functions of the society and its mission.
Positions on the board open regularly and are filled either through a voting process or appointment, depending on assignment. Skill sets needed but are not limited to include bird enthusiasts, biologists, conservationists, accountants, marketers, educators, computer techs, artists, graphic designers, and naturalists.
Citizen Science Assistant
Want to help with our on-going research projects? Like being in the field collecting data? The spring and summer months offer several options to support local research projects.
Conservationist
Concerned about the environment in which we work, play, and grow? Have an interest in protecting our environment? This ever-changing world perpetuates vigilance of public policies, community and resource development, and habitat protection. Time and diligence to read and respond to local issues is valued.
Educator
Enjoy working with youth? Schools often request our participation in science fairs, STEAM programs, field trips, or other related events. Want to share your passion for birds through adult workshops and courses? Opportunities abound.
Enthusiast
Want to give your time and energy to a purposeful organization? We have projects that need assistance from graphic arts and sign design to administrative assistance, marketing, and project coordination to youth events, community fairs, outreach events, and science and research. Be a volunteer!
Field Trip Leader
Have a desire to share birds with others? Want to get outside and lead a group educational adventure? Most field trips are in the spring and summer months yet an idea for a fall or winter program is always welcomed. Your enthusiasm and interest is needed.
Speaker
Have an interesting bird-related, natural history, scientific, or conservation topic to share? October through April guest speakers are selected for our membership programs and fundraising events.
